This photo essay was done to support the book Palaces for the People: How Social Infrastructure Can Help Fight Inequality, Polarization, and the Decline of Civic Life, by Eric Klinenberg.
Klinenberg explains how places such as libraries, youth soccer clubs, and community gardens provide spaces to form invaluable relationships, and how communities flourish when they are properly maintained.
The photo essay was done at New York Public Library’s Seward Park branch, and published in SLATE.
The exhibit, “A Day in the Life of a Library,” was shown at the The Institute for Public Knowledge (IPK) at New York University in 2019, and later installed at the Seward Park Library.
